ALTER EGO

Tame Impala - Innerspeaker

Tame Impala ยท Alter Ego

(sorry about the big ass embed, internet archive didn't have the full version)

Alter Ego is a close song to me. It's close to me because it symbolizes a change in my life that I'm appreciative of to this day. As a kid, I grew up almost exclusively on rap. Not just what was popular, but all kinds of timeless music from any kind of artist that was doing their thing, back then, and right now. Now, I'm grateful to have that developed taste in my developing years. But having all my attention on rap made even the most mainstream country song feel alien to me. Slowly, though, I started hearing more and more kinds of music around me. And when I got Spotify, I finally started to mix my taste with other music. Getting to the point I'm at now, a taste in almost every genre, took a few artists from each genre to introduce me to their side of music. And one of, if not the main artist to do that, was Tame Impala.

Songs like these had me banging my head in the middle of class. Whatever kind of acid Tame Impala was on making this shit, every artist better know about from now on. This song is a journey, because that's how he makes his songs. The music is constantly developing and transforming, the rythm, the beat, the instruments, and just everything in the song feels melted together into this psychedelic story. Something that you can just feel.

Tame Impala said on a podcast once that he often feels emotionally drained after making his albums, because he puts every ounce of his emotions and creative ambitions into his songs. When I listen to songs like these, I definitely believe him. Just perfect, man.
