Trae The Truth of Ibiza is one of, if not my favorite song out of J. Cole's new album, Might Delete Later. The album itself is a testament to Cole's skill and strength in the rap game, more than a decade after his debut. These albums just keep getting better and better, and, if you asked me, I'd say that these albums are way past his greatest hits, surpassing Born Sinner and Forest Hills Drive.
This song encapsulates this anomalous trend Cole has; how he's able to out-rap the greats of this decade, coming from the past decade. He's still on top, and it's been 12 fucking years! The peers around him have switched up styles: Kendrick's albums are more personal, few and far between, while Kanye is, Kanye. A lot of other greats have caeme and went, but Cole is still there, kicking it the same way, only with a fresh coat of paint and a wiser take in both his skills and the lyrics he spits. With no doubt, J. Cole is one of the goats from my generation, and the last generation at the same time.
Let's talk about the song though. The flow is immaculate, the verses are deep, the transitions are seamless, just chef's kiss all around 👌. The producing is just right. It has the perfect amount of soul with a beat that fits just right, not too strong or soft. It's something I can ride out to every time when it comes on. It's just perfect, man.
